November ninth – Thursday, and eleventh – Saturday in Shanghai:

Dennis and I left at midnight from LA on Asiana Airways – on a fourteen hour flight by way of Seoul, Korea — Incheon Airport – and on to Shanghai – Pu Dong Airport. With a three hour layover in Seoul -we first obtained a glimpse of the Asian tradition, and walked the lengthy corridor of the Obligation Cost-free Stores and stopped in the Wendy Café for latte and tea. When we landed in Shanghai – Mr. Gao Mim fulfilled us – with a indicator that Ai advised me to see – with big letters expressing “Dennis and Joan, Welcome to Shanghai”. Pleasant to have Mr. Go – who works for Kobayashi San – and Lilly, who is Chinese – satisfy us and spirit us away. Our baggage went by car to the resort – and Dennis, Lilly and I rode the Maglev from the airport to the west facet of Shanghai – a teach that price nine billions to create by the Chinese Authorities and flew to a optimum of 424 Kilometers in excess of the 7 moment trip. They explained that it would get 45 minutes by vehicle – with the site visitors in the Town – to cross from the river and get to our hotel. An Australian sat throughout from us – and we marveled at the whiz of the practice – and the instantaneous zip of a teach passing in the other path. Off the teach and into a taxi to the resort, the Ramada positioned in the western side, Pu Xi – the old portion – among the People’s Square and the Bund – the waterfront at the Huangpu River. The four of us enjoyed a late lunch in the restaurant, Nan Xinya, on the fourth floor of the lodge – with the spherical serving in the middle of the table loaded with Cantonese flavors – such as a fried fish with a purple sauce – tasty. Dennis and I napped – and went for a lengthy stroll down the Nanjing Rd – the pedestrian avenue powering the resort – to the Bund – and appreciated the array of colourful lighting down the road and on the waterfront – and the blue boat that sailed across our view. It was a gorgeous night – and the extended stroll back took us to the People’s Sq. – when we recognized that we’d long gone too much and retraced our measures. We slept like babies on the agency mattress with the coverlet – and have been welcomed to China.

November 12th – Sunday in Shanghai:

We woke to a misty sky – and planned to meet Lilly at 9AM – and first liked breakfast in the hotel. Lilly took us in the morning to City God Temple Bazaar – and the Yu Yard. The Backyard garden was the home of Mr. Pan, constructed in 1559, in the Ming Dynasty. Garden in China involves the trees, plants, rock and structures – and is the house in which nature is introduced in to be seasoned in the living. We walked the path and by way of the Chinese buildings – about the pools – by way of the gateways – and loved the elegance of the expansion, the many turning paths, the circular entry ways – the rocks from the bottom of the Taihu Lake (one particular of the 5 biggest new drinking water lakes) with a lot of intriguing styles from the erosion of the drinking water – piled substantial – and sometimes with a “tower of pleasure” in the clouds (on the rocks) and Exquisite Jade Stone. Five dragon walls, dragons with 3 fingers (for standard folks) – a pearl in the dragons mouth – and a single with a frog in a sympiotic romantic relationship – and tails that ripple the partitions major down the paths. Close to the corner, we exited the Backyard garden into the many outlets – and entered the Silk Manufacturing unit – to see how the silk perform spins alone in silk thread within its cocoon – and is cooked and put in water so that with a brush the girls can stir the cocoons and find the silk threads. Then six or eight threads are spun collectively to make the gorgeous silk thread – and we noticed the bedding and clothes that are typically created from the fantastic silks of China. Earlier, just before getting into the Backyard garden – we noticed the Nan Xiang Dumpling Cafe with a long line, and Lilly advised us about the yummy crab and pork dumplings. After some searching in the office shop – and looking at pearl, jade and precious stones in jewellery – we attempted the dumplings, with a little bit of ginger inside – and they ended up scrumptious. We returned to purchase a silk blanket and protect in the Silk Manufacturing unit – and they even had “California king”. 研究生申请 hurried by taxi to return to the resort – simply because Kobayashi San and Gao San ended up waiting for us for some lunch.

The business van – Fukuoka Knit Firm, Kobayashi San’s organization – took us across town – views of the streets of the Metropolis, the tall apartment structures, the theater and place of work structures for this Metropolis of sixteen million men and women. We traveled to the Hong District, in close proximity to the Embassies, which includes the Japanese Embassy. The restaurant was Chizhen in Hong Qiao – and we dined in a small room – and were shocked by the array of food items on the round glass serving piece in the center of the table – and including the shark fin soup (pricey and a delicacy in China). We modified the strategies for the afternoon – excellent modify – and from the hotel walked up the Nan Jing to Shu Ya Liang Zi – a conventional Chinese massage – on the eighth floor – and all 5 of us sat in the space every in our own reclining chair – with sizzling drinking water at our ft – and then the foot massage, deeply baring into our ft – and ear cleaning, a lot to our surprise. We ended up effectively rested and massaged and returned to the hotel, happily – and Dennis and I stopped in Yong An – the department retailer – and I liked buying “hair toys” to hold my hair in area – and the woman who showed me how to do this. Lilly taught us to say “Bu Ya Xie Xie” (no thanks) to all the sellers who have been making an attempt to market us fakes, watches and purses. And also, Bu Xie (thank you). And “Ni Hao” (Mandarin for Hi there). That evening we dressed and went to the Ritz Carlton to the Acrobat Present and to the Grape’s Backyard on Xinle Rd. for evening meal – and experienced our first flavor of the Chinese delicacy of “river crab”. Dennis and I required some classes on how to take in this, and that the portion in the center is regarded the best. It is all intriguing and a unusual experience to be so generously hosted by people who know Shanghai and it lifestyle, and an addition to my Rotary GSE expertise in Japan with many pals there.
